Georg Adam Ostertag (* 1675 ; † October 3, 1743 in Bonfeld ) was an executioner and warden master in Wimpfen and in places in the knightly canton of Kraichgau . In 1717 he carried out the last execution at the stake in his area of ​​activity.

Life

Ostertag came into the service of the city of Wimpfen in 1703 and was soon also the executioner and washer in most of the Kraichgau towns. As part of his duties, he carried out the last recorded cremation at the stake in Fürfeld in 1717 ; the one executed was Anna Maria Wagemann, who was accused of witchcraft . Ostertag had probably previously carried out the verdict in the last witch trial in Schwaigern in 1713, with Anna Maria Heinrich being executed by fire on September 6, 1713.

Ostertag is described as a rude and rowdy person who did not always do his job in the masking area , which took up more space than the executioner work, satisfactorily. So he left his own horse dead in Wimpfen and had to serve a 24-hour tower penalty for insulting the cattle viewers. An animal carcass that he disposed of near Gundelsheim in the Neckar led to a complaint from the Teutonic Order Commander at Horneck Castle . From his activity as a skinner he had to pay various taxes to the employers. a. To deliver two well-tanned dog skins for gloves, as well as horsehair for catching birds and carrion for wolf and fox traps as well as to feed the dogs of the rulership. He met these demands only inadequately.

In 1733 he handed over his offices in Wimpfen and his house in Wimpfen am Berg to his son Johann Bernhard Christoph Ostertag. As the result was a dispute between father and son, Georg Adam Ostertag moved to Eppingen in 1736 and later to Bonfeld . In January 1738 he entered the service of Philipp and Johann Dietrich von Gemmingen as an executioner and was master in their dominion in Bonfeld with Wollenberg , Dammhof, shares in Hüffenhardt , Kälbertshausen and Neckarmühlbach as well as Fürfeld.

After his death in 1743, his office in Bonfeld was passed on to his son-in-law Christoph Dietrich Carle as a long lease .
