Georg Christof Reinhart (also: Georges Reinhart ; * March 21, 1838 in Worms ; † April 30, 1899 ibid) was a leather manufacturer and the Hessian commercial councilor in Worms.

Live and act

He was the son of the married couple Nikolaus Andreas Reinhart I (1809–1871) and Maria Elisabeth, born in Mainz, who moved to Worms . Schmitt (1810-1868). The father, a tanner , acquired the Daniel Löb tannery in Worms in 1836 and founded a patent leather factory in 1840 together with Johann Baptist Doerr (1811-1892), who was also from Mainz, and it became one of the most important industrial companies in the city. It traded under the name “Doerr & Reinhart” and was the first factory in Worms to be founded or operated by Catholic entrepreneurs.

When his father died in 1871, Georg Christof Reinhart succeeded him in the leather factory. He was supported by the co-founder Johann Baptist Doerr, his son Fritz Doerr and his own brother Nikolaus Andreas Reinhart II (1841-1910), who, however, had also been a member of the 2nd Chamber of the Hessian Parliament since 1878 . His sister Anna Reinhart (1836–1901) had married the company co-founder Johann Baptist Doerr in 1853, which means that the factory was exclusively family-owned. She was also the owner of the rare Cross of Merit for Women and Virgins in 1870/71 .

The company “Doerr & Reinhart” demonstrated a great sense of responsibility for the well-being of its employees. Exemplary were the early establishment of a company-owned consumer institute, a bread bakery and a dining establishment, as well as a medication fund, which was converted into a company health insurance fund in 1884. In 1889 the factory management set up a workers 'committee and had inexpensive workers' houses built. In 1880 the company already employed 700 workers.

family

Georg Christof Reinhart, to whom the title of Grand Ducal Commerzienrat was awarded, was married to Anna Clara Josepha Hundhausen (1843–1926), daughter of the notary Ludwig Hundhausen in Gau-Algesheim and his wife Susanna Anna Valckenberg, a granddaughter of the former Mayor of Worms Peter Joseph Valckenberg (1764-1837).

Reinhart's brother-in-law (brother of his wife) was the Catholic priest and Mainz theology professor Ludwig Joseph Hundhausen (1835–1900).

The couple had 6 children:
