Georg Christoph von Haslang (born September 25, 1602 in Munich , † April 15, 1684 in Hohenkammer ) was the envoy of Elector Maximilian I of Bavaria at the Westphalian peace negotiations in Münster and Osnabrück.

Life

Origin and family

Georg Christoph von Haslang was born as the son of Heinrich von Haslang († 1607, Councilor) and his wife Barbara von Closen. In 1621 he married Anna Katharina von Dalberg, daughter of Wolfgang Friedrich I. von Dalberg . She was the widow of Johann Dietrich Echter von Mespelbrunn . From this marriage there were three children. His second marriage was in 1635 with Maria Katharina von Fürstenberg zu Herdringen (1611–1679), daughter of Friedrich von Fürstenberg (1576–1646) and his wife Anna Maria von Kerpen (1588–1646). This marriage produced five sons and one daughter.

Career and work

After studying at the University of Ingolstadt , Georg Christoph became a Bavarian truchess and councilor in 1621 . A year later he was promoted to the baron status, he took up the officer's career and in 1632 became head of a riding company. On December 11, 1638, Georg Christoph received a fiefdom letter from Elector Maximilian I for his share in the Giebing seat . Since he had proven himself as an envoy to the Reichstag in Regensburg from 1641 to 1642 and also in Vienna, he was appointed privy councilor and chief envoy for the Westphalian peace congress in Münster in 1645 . Here he was responsible for representing the spa region of Bavaria. The peace treaties were signed in Osnabrück on October 24, 1648, not by Georg Christoph, but by Dr. Johann Adolph Krebs signed. In 1653 he was the Bavarian envoy to the election of King Ferdinand IV. Georg Christoph is buried in the parish church of Hohenkammer, where the tombstone is still preserved.
