Live and act

Here he made friends with the main pastor Philipp Nicolai , for whom he gave the funeral oration and whose writings he left behind in 1617. Dedeken did not participate in denominational disputes and was considered a "moderatist" in controversies in 1613/14 under the aegis of Johann Schellhammer .

Dedeken had nine daughters, two of whom married in Hamburg. Martha married the organist Johann Decker on January 23, 1626. Another daughter of unknown name married Christian Camerarius, who was the first pastor at the Hamburg orphanage . A son Josias, born in 1599, became a doctor of law in 1626 and worked as a canonicus minor at the Hamburg Cathedral and in the Holstein Council.

Works

Dedeken wrote several writings, including 1608 the gem for seafarers . It was the first comfort book written especially for seafarers. In 1623 he published the Thesauri consiliorum et decisionum . The work was considered one of the most important reference works among politicians and scholars of the 17th century. It includes reports by Lutheran scholars of the 16th and 17th centuries on theological, legal and political issues that were current at the time and is still used today for research purposes.
