Georg Elser Memorial Königsbronn
The Georg Elser Memorial in Königsbronn is a memorial and research center in Königsbronn in Baden-Württemberg . It is dedicated to Georg Elser , who carried out a narrowly failed bomb attack on Adolf Hitler on November 8, 1939, including almost the entire National Socialist leadership.
Georg Elser and Königsbronn
Georg Elser was born in Hermaringen in 1903 , but from 1904 lived most of his life in Königsbronn. In 1939, he stole the dynamite for his time bomb in a quarry in the Königsbronn district of Itzelberg . He then carried out blasting tests in his parents' orchard. In 2010, an Elser memorial created by Friedrich Frankowitsch was erected at Königsbronn train station .
Creation of the memorial
The memorial, inaugurated in 1998, is located at Herwartstraße 3 in the immediate vicinity of the town hall and the Brenzursprung . It was created in collaboration with the Georg Elser Working Group , the Königsbronn community and the German Resistance Memorial Center in Berlin . Peter Steinbach , Johannes Tuchel and the working group prepared a documentation in advance, which was shown in 1997 as a special exhibition at the German Resistance Memorial Center, but which was subsequently also suitable as a permanent exhibition in Königsbronn.
In three rooms the exhibition shows a large number of photos and documents as well as some of Elser's few surviving personal items. The interrogation protocols from December 1939 can also be viewed and provide a comprehensive insight into the background to the attack. The exhibition is structured:
- Room 1
Biography of Georg Elser - interrogation protocol - press article - Room 2
Hitler putsch 1923 - decision to act - preparations - the assassination attempt of November 8, 1939 - consequences of the explosion - propaganda - reactions - Room 3
Investigations and Arrests - Interrogations - Concentration Camp Imprisonment and Murder - After 1945
In 2012, a tourist information sign was set up on the A4 motorway between the Aalen-Westhausen and Aalen-Oberkochen junctions in the direction of Ulm at the request and at the expense of the municipality of Königsbronn . In addition to the Königsbronn town hall and the Brenz from there, it shows a portrait of Elser and draws attention to the home of Georg Elser and indirectly to the memorial at the source of the Brenz .
