Georg Haberland (born August 14, 1861 in Wittstock / Dosse ; † November 17, 1933 in Florence ) was a German merchant and real estate entrepreneur .

Life

After completing a commercial apprenticeship and attending the Meerane weaving school , Haberland initially worked as a representative for a British textile company throughout Europe for eight years .

Georg Haberland was later a managing director of the Berlinische Boden-Gesellschaft, founded in 1890 with the participation of his father Salomon Haberland . The company acquired land, which it developed, parceled out and sold to builders. It operated its own construction projects only after the First World War through a newly founded subsidiary, the Berlinische Bau-Gesellschaft , which acted as general contractor . The commitment in Wilmersdorf , which was also called 'Deutsch-Wilmersdorf' at the time, led to the merger with the Terrain-Gesellschaft Berlin-Südwest , which was already active there. Georg Haberland joined the board of directors of the Berlin-Südwest Terraingesellschaft , which was responsible for expanding the Rheingauviertel around Rüdesheimer Platz and installing the underground line to Dahlem , today's U3 line . Other important projects were the development of the Bavarian Quarter and the Historians Quarter between Kurfürstendamm and the Stadtbahn around Sybelstrasse .

Thanks to its economic power, Haberland was also able to achieve political influence. Haberland was able to put up its own candidate for the municipal council elections in 1907 in cooperation with the Schönebergs house and landowners association through the “district association of the Berlin districts” . Haberland personally became a member of the Berlin city council as a member of the first tax bracket until 1910 . Also in Wilmersdorf, a focus of the company's development activities, Haberland was part of the municipal council for a time. As a representative of the Teltow district he was active in the association assembly after the formation of the special purpose association of Greater Berlin . He had repeatedly received support from the district, both from District Administrator Ernst von Stubenrauch and from his successor Adolf von Achenbach .

Haberland wrote numerous papers on topics such as the importance of private capital in the development of urban development, building, rental and mortgage legislation and the tariff structure of local public transport. Georg Haberland had been a member of the Society of Friends since 1901 .
