Adolf Heinrich August von Achenbach (born May 11, 1866 in Berlin , † August 19, 1951 in Saltsjöbaden , Sweden ) was a Prussian politician.

Life

Adolf Heinrich August was the son of Heinrich von Achenbach , a ministerial advisor in the mining department of the Prussian Ministry of Commerce, and his wife Marina Johanna Sophie Luise Mathilde Achenbach, née Rollmann. In 1888 he began studying law at the faculty of Christian Albrechts University in Kiel , but in the same year he moved to Friedrich Wilhelms University (since 1945 Humboldt University in Berlin ) in Berlin. In the same year the father received through Friedrich III. the ennoblement . On June 6, 1889, the mother died in Potsdam. On July 8, 1892, Achenbach took the legal exam and was appointed court trainee on July 16. He worked at the District Court of Rixdorf and the District Court II of Berlin. On November 16, 1892, he received his doctorate from the University of Leipzig Dr. jur.

Achenbach served in the Guard Cuirassier Regiment from 1892 to 1893 . On September 13, 1894 he was appointed second lieutenant in the reserve and on September 23 as a government trainee. He worked for the government in Potsdam , acting on behalf of the mayor in Nauen and the district administrator of the Osthavelland district . After passing the state examination on February 25, 1899, he became a government assessor. In the same year his father died.

In the following years Achenbach worked in the ministerial military and building commission in Berlin. From October 1, 1899 to January 31, 1908 he worked in the district office of the Teltow district . On February 24, 1900, he married Laurita von Bary. On April 14, 1906 he was appointed a councilor. On January 8, 1908, Achenbach was entrusted with the provisional administration of Teltow. The official appointment as district administrator took place on March 23.

During his tenure as district administrator, 26 roads were built. In order to promote shipping on the Teltow Canal , Achenbach supported Teltow Canal AG, which developed and built ships for canal shipping. He also promoted the gas supply and welfare and initiated the construction of a hospital. Achenbach came out against the Greater Berlin Act . After the outbreak of World War I , one of the most important tasks was to provide the population with permanent food. In 1916, Achenbach and Niederbarnim Felix Busch's district administrator wrote a memorandum to the Minister of the Interior in which they criticized the lack of organization in the war economy. As a result, the Prussian County Council was founded on September 8, 1916 .

From 1921 to 1931 he was a member of the Prussian state parliament. On September 30, 1931, he resigned from civil service. In April 1933 he resigned as chairman of the German district assembly and became honorary chairman of the same. In the following years Achenbach lived in Babelsberg . After the end of the Second World War in 1945, Achenbach emigrated with his family to Saltsjöbaden , where he lived until his death.
