Georg Heckel (General Manager)

Georg Heckel (* 1967 in Saarbrücken ) is a German theater director and opera singer in the vocal field ( bass baritone ).

Life

Heckel, born in Saarbrücken, grew up in Aachen. As a student he was accepted by Claudio Nicolai at the Cologne University of Music . After graduating from high school, he first studied musicology and German at the University of Cologne. He also worked on productions at the Cologne Opera, where he worked under Willy Decker , Jean-Pierre Ponnelle and Harry Kupfer . This was followed by vocal studies at the Freiburg Music Academy , then went to Aldo Baldin at the Karlsruhe Music Academy . Due to his early death in 1994, he finished his education at the Cologne University of Music.

In addition, he took private lessons with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf , Charles Spencer , Vera Rózsa , Kurt Moll and Renata Scotto .

Finally he made his debut at the Landestheater Coburg and then moved to the opera studio of the Cologne Opera, which was followed by guest appearances a. a. in Erfurt, Freiburg, Basel, Leipzig, Saarbrücken, Palermo (“Schulze” in Die Zwillingsbrüder ) and Baden-Baden (“Don Alfonso” in Così fan tutte ).

In addition to his performances, he studied cultural management at the Fernuniversität Hagen.

In 2006 he became chief dispatcher at the Darmstadt State Theater . From 2008 he held the position of artistic operations director and from 2010 also that of opera director.

In January 2014 he went to Theater Augsburg as managing director of the music theater. Since the 2014/15 season he has also been deputy director. In the 2017/18 season he was artistic director of operations at the Freiburg Theater. Since the 2018/2019 season he has been the artistic director of the Detmold State Theater .

Heckel is married to the soprano Adréana Kraschewski.
