from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Georg I. von Münsterberg (also: Georg I. von Podiebrad ; Czech: Jiří z Minstrberka ; * October 2, 1470 in Lititz ; † November 10, 1502 in Oels ) was duke in the Silesian principalities of Münsterberg and Oels and Count von Glatz .

Life

Georg was a grandson of the Bohemian King George of Podebrady . His parents were Heinrich d. Ä. von Münsterberg and Ursula von Brandenburg , daughter of Margrave Albrecht Achilles .

After Georg's brother Albrecht had been married to a daughter of the Sagan Duke Johann II in 1487 , the younger brothers Georg and Karl were married with daughters of Johann II in 1488 in a double wedding . Georg's wife became Hedwig (1476–1524).

After the death of their father in 1498, the three brothers Albrecht, Georg and Karl ruled together, each living on his own farm: Albrecht in Glatz , Georg in Oels , Karl in Münsterberg and from 1530 in the newly built castle in Frankenstein . Although the three brothers sold the Grafschaft Glatz to their later brother-in-law Ulrich von Hardegg as early as 1501 , they kept the title of Count von Glatz for themselves and their descendants until the Münsterberg lineage of the Lords of Podiebrad in the male line in 1647.

Georg was a great sponsor of the spa facilities in Bad Landeck . Soon after the death of his father, he arranged for the Georgenbad there to be built with a house and the St. George's Chapel. In 1501 he issued the first bathing regulations for Landeck.
