Georg Küntzel

Georg Küntzel (born November 20, 1870 in Schroda , Province of Posen , † May 7, 1945 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German historian .

Georg Küntzel was born in 1870 as the son of the lawyer Oskar Küntzel , later Real Privy Councilor and Undersecretary of State in the Prussian Ministry of Justice, in the province of Posen . He studied at the universities in Tübingen and Berlin and was awarded a doctorate in Berlin in 1894. phil. PhD. He was a student of Albert Naudé . In 1899 he completed his habilitation with a work accompanied by Friedrich von Bezold at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and became a private lecturer .

In 1906 he was appointed full professor at the Academy for Social and Commercial Sciences in Frankfurt am Main. In 1914 he moved to the newly founded University of Frankfurt am Main as a full professor for modern history (later full professor for medieval and modern history). In addition, he was a lecturer for modern political science and politics at the Technical University of Darmstadt . From 1929 to 1930 he was rector of Frankfurt University. In 1934 he retired. Jacob Katz and Stephan Skalweit were among his academic students .

From 1922 to 1924 Küntzel was chairman of the German Association of Historians and a member of the Frankfurt Historical Commission .

He was married to a daughter of the English scholar Moritz Trautmann .
