Georg Kleine

Georg Kleine (born December 13, 1881 in Kassel , † July 15, 1944 in Kiel ) was a German naval officer , most recently rear admiral in World War II .

Life

Kleine joined the Imperial Navy on April 7, 1900 , completed his ship training on the cruiser frigate SMS Moltke and then went to the naval school, where he was appointed ensign at sea on April 19, 1901 . After the successful completion he was transferred to the liner SMS Kaiser Friedrich III. and promoted him on September 27, 1903 to lieutenant at sea . On October 1, 1903, he came on board the small cruiser SMS Nymphe and was initially employed as an adjutant, then as an officer on watch . On October 1, 1904 his transfer was made on the front of German South West Africa in use station ship SMS Habicht . On March 21, 1905, he was promoted to first lieutenant in the gunboat and from October 3, 1905, he was employed as an officer on watch on the large cruiser SMS Prinz Adalbert for two years . Kleine then came to the 1st Ship Main Division as a company officer. After completing a course on the artillery training ship SMS Mars from February 10 to March 31, 1908 , he was employed as a teacher at the ship artillery school in Kiel until the end of September 1908 . As an officer on watch he was then transferred to the small cruiser SMS Königsberg and promoted to lieutenant captain on October 16, 1909 .

As such, Kleine was appointed company commander of the Kiautschou sailor artillery division on September 15, 1910 , and embarked with his unit on January 4, 1911 for Kiautschou . He was to lead this unit there until February 27, 1914. After his return home, he was initially made available to the I. Werft Division and was used there as a company officer from May 25 to June 17, 1914. Then he was transferred to the large-scale ship SMS Kaiser as 3rd artillery officer. Kleine stayed on board even after the outbreak of the First World War and was briefly in the same position on the large liner SMS Markgraf from October 22 to November 9, 1914 , before joining SMS Kronprinz . There he was first deployed as 2nd, then 1st artillery officer and promoted Kleine to Corvette Captain on March 17, 1918 .

After the end of the war, until December 30, 1918, it was used by the III. Squadron. Until March 16, 1920, Kleine served as first officer on the small cruiser Königsberg . From March 17 to May 14, 1920, Kleine was on leave and then used until July 22, 1920 in the weapons department of the Admiralty . He then served initially as a consultant, from October 18, 1922 as Chief of Staff in the inspection of the naval artillery and was meanwhile on January 1, 1924 frigate captain . On January 10, 1925, he was appointed commander of the small cruiser Nymphe , on which he was already active at the beginning of his career. Kleine was put in command of the ship's artillery school on September 22, 1926 and shortly afterwards promoted to sea captain on October 1, 1926 . Kleine gave this command on September 29, 1930 and was retired from the Navy one day later while being promoted to rear admiral.

On May 24, 1939, he was reactivated in the Navy . At first he was not used and then served from April 7th to October 29th, 1941 as naval commissioner for the Kaiser Wilhelm Canal . He was then appointed section commander Rügen-Hiddensee . On July 27, 1943, Kleine was placed at the disposition of the commander of the Naval High Command in the Baltic Sea and finally retired on August 31, 1943.
