Georg Loesti
Georg Loesti (* 1859 in Munich ; † 1943 in Stuttgart ) was a German architect , photographer and illustrator . He illustrated many volumes of the art monuments of Bavaria .
Life
Georg Loesti was the son of a graphic artist who ran a lithography workshop in Munich . He studied architecture at the Technical University of Munich and after graduating in 1881 worked in the Max von Heckels office . In 1884 Albert Schmidt was his employer; He was briefly employed by Georg von Hauberrisser , after which he moved to Karlsruhe and finally to Stuttgart. There he worked at Lambert and Stahl . In 1890 he started his own business.
As an architect, Loesti was involved, among other things, in a competition design for the Reichstag building and in the planning of the Munich synagogue , and in 1895 he designed a fountain for Heilbronn . But his graphic and photographic work is more extensive. Loesti illustrated the book Strasbourg and its buildings and created a work on the welfare buildings of the Krupp company in Essen . He also worked for many years in the inventory of art monuments and antiquities in Württemberg and the inventory of art monuments and antiquities in Bavaria . Gisa Schäffer-Huber judged his technical drawings, some of which were colored with watercolors, as “free works of art of great standing”; According to the author, Loesti's drawings reveal the influences of Art Nouveau . Loesti also took numerous photographs of works of art, buildings and landscapes.
Georg Loesti was married to the painter Thekla Loesti-Wessinger. The daughter Margarete emerged from the marriage.
