Georg Nitsch
Georg Nitsch (also: Nitsche , Nitschius ; * March 12, 1663 in Altstrelitz ; † November 20, 1729 in Gotha ) was a German Protestant theologian.
Life
The son of a watchmaker and businessman, who died at the age of 12, had attended the school in his hometown as well as the schools in Prenzlau , Stralsund and Brandenburg . He improved his living conditions by singing in the carolers and as an assistant teacher. On March 10, 1684 he began studying at the University of Wittenberg , in the same year switched to the University of Leipzig and in 1685 to the University of Jena .
In 1692 he went to Wolfenbüttel , where he was appointed a court collaborator by Duke Anton Ulrich, and in 1693 he took over the pastor's office at the Gotteslager church there. He preached for several years in a narrow space above the imperial gate until a new church was built for his congregation in 1700. He liked this position so much that in 1706 he turned down a call to Hanover and in 1708 a second to Halberstadt. Finally, in 1709, he followed a call as general superintendent and consistorial assessor to Gotha. Almost exactly a year later, on November 10, 1710, he gave his inaugural sermon there and remained in this office until his death.
Nitsch was an educated man and not very contentious in his theological attitude. Yet he did not hide his opinion. So he expressed himself critical when Elisabeth Christine von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel for the purpose of the wedding with the later Emperor Karl VI. converted to the catholic faith. As a good pulpit speaker, he had made a name for himself preferably in the field of edification literature. Apart from individual sermons and letters, he has published extensive books.

Nitsch was married four times. His first marriage was in Braunschweig in 1691 with Clara Sophia Fine. The third time he had on October 18, 1712 in Erfurt Joannette, the daughter of the councilor Johann Jacob Schmid (Schmidt) and Martha Sophia Menius.
