Georg Philipp Olearius

Georg Philipp Olearius (born November 11, 1680 in Leipzig ; † February 3, 1741 ibid) was a German philologist and Protestant theologian.

Life

The youngest son of Johannes Olearius (1639–1713) had initial private lessons, including from his brother Johann Friedrich Olearius (1679–1726) and Johann Huebner (1668–1731) and therefore moved to the University of Leipzig early in 1696 . Here he acquired his baccalaureate on November 18 of the same year and the degree of Master of Philosophy on January 16, 1699 .

After studying at the University of Halle with Johann Franz Buddeus , he returned to Leipzig, completed his habilitation at the Leipzig University and became an assessor at the Philosophical Faculty of the Leipzig University. When Olearius had gained access to the theological faculty as a Baccalaurus of theology on March 20, 1711, he became a full professor of Latin and Greek in 1713 , acquired on 5/14. Licentiate in theology in July 1714 , became a member of the great prince’s college in November 1715 and at the same time became a preacher at the Pauline Church .

On April 27, 1724 he received his doctorate in theology, was decemvir of the university in 1735 and also took part in the organizational tasks of the alma mater as dean and chancellor of the philosophical faculty. The employee at the Acta Eruditorum died unmarried. His library was sold to the highest bidder and he was quietly buried at his request.
