Georg Prusko

Georg Stefan Prusko (born December 27, 1924 in Gleiwitz , Upper Silesia, † August 26, 2019 ) was a Hessian politician ( CDU ) and a member of the Hessian state parliament .

education and profession

Born as the fourth of five children to a family of miners, Prusko grew up in poor conditions. After graduating from elementary school , he trained as an industrial clerk . During the Second World War he served as a paratrooper. Prusko became an insurance employee in Dresden in 1947 .

Resistance and flight

In 1947 he joined the CDU and three years later was managing director of the CDU district association in Meissen . The State Security Service (Stasi) arrested Georg Prusko after the popular uprising of June 17, 1953 . Prusko was sentenced to six years in prison by a special political court . The father of two was confiscated and his civil rights were revoked. He spent more than three years in the Bautzen and Waldheim prisons . After their release, the Prusko family fled to the west.

After the escape, Prusko continued political work for 22 years in various offices in the CDU.

On October 22, 1969, he joined the Hessian state parliament as a member of the constituency of Usingen - Friedberg West as the successor to Johanna Walz . His constituency result gained nationwide attention. While the CDU had only 19.5 percent of the vote in this constituency in 1966, compared to 65 percent of the SPD, the CDU under Prusko achieved 40 percent in 1970 and 48 percent four years later (the constituency name was now the state constituency Hochtaunuskreis Nord and Wetteraukreis West ) , while the SPD shrank to 39 percent. A success that Prusko attributed to systematic social work in his communities.

He remained a member of the state parliament from the sixth to the end of the tenth electoral term on August 4, 1983. In accordance with his experiences and inclinations, he was chairman of the subcommittee on displaced persons, resettlers and reparations and a member of the social policy committee.

Other offices

Prusko was the long-term chairman of the Hesse state of the Association of Expellees and took great care of the repatriates . He was also active in a variety of social and church organizations and initiatives.
