He came from the Thuringian noble family Osterhausen , was the son of the governor Hans George von Osterhausen , a brother of the court marshal von Osterhausen and after the death of his father inherited extensive property in today's Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia , which he expanded through clever purchases and with special rights (for example 1605 chancellery and 1619 jurisdiction over Gleina) was able to expand.

On June 2, 1619, Georg Bastian von Osterhausen informed Elector Johann Georg von Sachsen that he had bought half of the once mighty knight's seat at Gleina about 3 weeks ago from Balthasar Schardt, Dietrich Schardt's brother , and asked for an exhibition a separate feudal letter about what was done in 1620 by the feudal chancellery in Dresden . The second half of the knight's seat Gleina remained with Dietrich Scharte.

Georg Sebastian von Osterhausen was buried on January 31, 1650 in Gleina . The funeral sermon, which was held in his memory in the Naumburg collegiate and cathedral church, appeared in print.

He was married to Maria von Breitenbauch from the Gröst family .

His only son was Hans Joachim von Osterhausen.
