Georg Winter (historian)
Carl Georg Winter (born February 3, 1856 in Breslau , † September 1, 1912 in Magdeburg ) was a German archivist and historian .
Life
After 1873 began studies at the universities of Breslau and Berlin Georg doctorate Winter 1878 in Goettingen to the Dr. phil. During his studies in 1873 he became a member of the Germania Breslau fraternity . From 1877 to 1879 he worked as a research assistant at the history seminar of Berlin University before he was hired as an archive assistant in the Secret Prussian State Archives in Berlin-Dahlem in 1879 . In 1881 he moved to the State Archives in Düsseldorf as an archive assistant and in December 1882 he became archive secretary at the State Archives in Marburg. Here he was promoted to archivist 2nd class in 1885.
In October 1892, Georg Winter moved to the Magdeburg State Archives , which he headed as archive director from 1906 until his death in 1912. In the meantime he worked at the Stettin State Archives from 1896 to 1901 and at the Osnabrück State Archives from 1901 to 1906 . He was a member of the Magdeburg Masonic Lodge Harpokrates .
