Ignaz Jastrow
Ignaz Jastrow (born September 13, 1856 in Nakel an der Netze , † May 2, 1937 in Berlin-Charlottenburg ) was a German historian and social politician .
Life
Ignaz Jastrow studied history, law and political science at Breslau and Berlin and in 1878 at the Georg-August-University of Goettingen to the Dr. phil. PhD. From 1879 he worked as a teacher at various Berlin high schools. From 1881 he was editor and head of several specialist journals, u. a. of " social practice ". After his habilitation in history, he taught as a private lecturer at Berlin University.
Jastrow coined the term " social liberalism " in 1893 , became a member of the Verein für Socialpolitik and in 1897 founded the magazine "Der Arbeitsmarkt". In it, he was the first to publish the vacancies, job seekers and agencies reported to him by municipal and other non-profit job records (job placement agencies) and organized the first job record conference in Germany. In 1898 he was one of the co-founders of the Association of German Work Evidence (VDA).
In 1905 Jastrow was appointed associate professor for administrative sciences at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin. From 1906 to 1914 he was a professor at the Handelshochschule Berlin and from 1906 to 1909 at the same time its founding rector. Because of his Jewish origins, Jastrow could not be appointed full professor for political science at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität until 1920 (until 1924). However, he did not finish teaching until 1935 after fifty years.
Ignaz Jastrow published over 200 books, essays and newspaper articles on the subjects of the labor market, unemployment , unemployment insurance and labor administration alone . His daughter, Elisabeth Jastrow , was an archaeologist , the daughter Beate Hahn , b. Jastrow, a gardener, social reformer, and book author.
