George Löning

George Anton Löning (born March 7, 1900 in Bremen , † February 15, 1946 ( declaration of death ) in Kuibyshev , Soviet Union ) was a German legal scholar.

biography

Löning was the son of a public prosecutor. He graduated from the old grammar school in Bremen and after graduating from high school was still a soldier in the First World War . From 1919 to 1923 he studied at the Philipps University of Marburg , the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and the Georg August University of Göttingen . In 1919 he became a member of the Corps Hasso-Nassovia and the Corps Suevia Freiburg . Löning was u. a. Student of Justus W. Hedemann . He was awarded a Dr. iur. doctorate and worked as a lawyer from 1928 to 1930. Habilitated private lecturer in Jena since 1929 , he received a teaching position at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel in 1930 . His specialty was legal history , especially Bremen and the Hanseatic League . In 1934 he became an associate professor and in 1938 a full professor of legal history at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald . In 1941 he was appointed to the Westphalian Wilhelms University ; he taught legal and Hanseatic history. In 1944/1945 he was an interpreter at the Wehrmacht High Command during World War II . In 1945 he was taken prisoner by the Soviets , in which he died.
