George Ian Boyd (born October 2, 1985 in Chatham ) is a Scottish football player who has been under contract with Peterborough United since 2019 .
Stevenage FC (2002-2007)
George Boyd made his debut in the 2002/03 season with English fifth division FC Stevenage . In the 2004/05 season he reached the play-off final with his team, but lost this game 0-1 against Carlisle United . In his last season in Stevenage he scored ten league goals in the fifth division until January 2007 before leaving the club.
Peterborough United (2007-2013)
On January 8, 2007, the 21-year-old George Boyd was signed by the English fourth division club Peterborough United . Boyd, who quickly established himself as a regular player (40 league games / 12 goals), won the runner-up in Football League Two with United in the 2007/08 season , securing promotion to the third division. In addition, Boyd was voted into the PFA Team of the Year of the fourth division at the end of the season . This success was increased in the Football League One in 2008/09 when the promoted team managed to march through to the second division thanks to another runner-up. George Boyd was once again voted PFA Team of the Year. The season in the second-rate Football League Championship 2009/10 was less successful and ended with relegation to the third division. In March 2010, Boyd was on loan to league rivals Nottingham Forest and played six league games (one goal) for his new team by the end of the season. 2010/11 he succeeded with Peterborough the direct return to the second division. After a fourth place in the table, the club moved into the play-off final after a success over Milton Keynes Dons. In front of 48,410 spectators at Old Trafford , United defeated Huddersfield Town 3-0 and thus secured promotion. With fifteen goals, Boyd stood out after Craig Mackail-Smith (top scorer with 27 goals) as the second top scorer of his team. In the Football League Championship 2011/12 , the climber managed to stay in the league when he was eighth in the table.
After a renewed change on loan to Nottingham Forest had failed under controversial circumstances, George Boyd moved to Hull City on February 21, 2013 on loan .
Scottish National Team (2013–)
In March 2013 George Boyd was appointed to the squad of the Scottish national team for the first time. After not playing in the 2-1 home defeat against Wales, he played his first international match for Scotland on March 26, 2013 in a 2-0 away defeat in the World Cup qualifier in Serbia.
