The parish church of Sankt Pankrazen is a Roman Catholic parish and pilgrimage church in St. Pankrazen in the municipality of Gratwein-Straßengel in the Graz-Umgebung district in Styria . Its history goes back to the second half of the 14th century.

The church is located in the hamlet of Sankt Pankrazen in the cadastral community of Gschnaidt .

history

The first written mention of the church comes from the year 1365. The choir was built at the end of the 14th or beginning of the 15th century. The late Gothic nave dates from the end of the 15th century. The parish was incorporated into Rein Abbey in 1607 . The interior was restored between 1968 and 1973.

architecture

The church tower is in the west of the church in front of the facade. He has an onion helmet with a lantern . Two bells that were cast in 1471 and 1696 hang in it. The latter comes from Florentin Streckfuß. There are stepped buttresses on the outside of the choir, two of which are placed across the corner on the western facade. On the southern outer wall of the nave is a porch with a staircase to the gallery from 1546.

inner space

The three-bay nave is from one to console seated net vault spans with a bent ranking. There is a tracery window . The single-bay choir is narrower than the nave and three steps higher. It is vaulted with ribs and has two-lane tracery windows. The front arch is drawn in. The two-bay sacristy is north of the choir. Its eastern yoke comes from the Gothic and is vaulted with ribs, the western yoke is baroque and has a groin vault . South of the choir is the Sebastian Chapel, built in 1723, with a cross vault . The three-axis and two-bay gallery is in the western part of the nave. The western, late Gothic gallery yoke has a ribbed vault resting on consoles. One of the consoles is decorated with a head. The eastern, baroque Emporenjoch has a cross vault. The gallery pillars with elements of the Renaissance originate from around 1546, as presumably also the gallery staircase. The pulpit was built in 1718. The Gothic font is twelve-sided. The baroque organ was installed between 1730 and 1740.

The high altar, dating from 1620, was transferred from Rein Abbey to the church in 1968 . On it stands a 19th century statue of St. Pancras . The side altars were erected in the third quarter of the 17th century. On the left side altar is a late Gothic statue of Mary with child from the end of the 15th century and reworked in Baroque style. The altar in the Sebastian Chapel has an altarpiece dated 1729. The wings of the organ show paintings depicting the Annunciation as well as Saint Cecilia and King David . The stained glass in the middle choir window was designed by Franz Weiss in 1970 , the two side windows in 1930 by Fritz Silberbauer . A pane of glass from the beginning of the 15th century is now in the Universalmuseum Joanneum .
