Wilhelm Kreiten
Wilhelm Kreiten (born June 22, 1847 in Gangelt , † June 6, 1902 in Kerkrade ) was a German Jesuit, writer, poet, literary historian and critic.
Life
The 16-year-old son of master blacksmith Peter Josef Kreiten started the novitiate in the Jesuit branch in Münster on October 1, 1863 .
After completing his classical training in Münster and Amiens , he began philosophical and theological studies in the Maria Laach Abbey , which he interrupted in 1868 due to illness.
From 1869 to 1871 he studied literature in Münster. Due to the expulsion of the Jesuits from Germany in 1872 , Kreiten was transferred from his order to Aix-en-Provence , where he completed his theological studies and was ordained a priest on January 8, 1873. He took his last vow on August 15, 1877.
From 1870 to 1878 he worked as an editor of the Catholic, culture-critical magazine Voices from Maria Laach in Tervuren . For health reasons Kreiten went to Kerkrade in 1878, where he worked as a writer for the remaining 23 years of his life. He was also one of the most important contributors to the magazine Voices from Maria Laach , in which he published numerous essays on literary topics and commented on contemporary Catholic literature from 1874 to 1902. In addition, Kreiten published under the pseudonyms Wahrmuth, Phil .; Ipse, Egon; Kreiten, Gul., Kreiten, Gulielmus. Kreiten also wrote for the magazine The Catholic Missions .
