Charles George Connor (born August 16, 1906 in Rialto , USA , † March 28, 2001 in Hesperia ) was an American racing driver .

Career

George Connor competed in 63 Champ Car races between 1935 and 1952 , 14 of them in the Indianapolis 500 . In 1946 he won two Champ Car races in Dayton and Lakewood . In Indianapolis, his best placement was a third place in 1949.

Since the 500 miles were part of the Formula 1 World Championship between 1950 and 1960 , Connor also drove three races in this competition. In 1950 and 1952 he was eighth, he could not achieve points for the world championship.

In 1954 he retired from racing and worked for Mobil Oil and as an official at Bonneville Speedway , Utah . With him, the last participant in a 500 mile race from Indianapolis before World War II died in 2001.
