George Eells

George Eells (born January 20, 1922 in Winslow , Stephenson County , Illinois , † January 1, 1995 in New York ) was an American author.

Life

Eells graduated from Northwestern University and Columbia University . From 1945 worked in New York for the Sunday newspaper Parade as an editor for entertainment. He later worked as an editor at Look and Theater Arts as well as Signature , Diners Club's customer magazine .

From 1967 onwards he published a number of biographies, mainly about stars of classic Hollywood. In 1985, Gus Trikonis shot the television film The Crazy Hollywood ( Malice in Wonderland ) with Jane Alexander and Elizabeth Taylor in the leading roles , based on the double biography Hedda and Louella written by Eells .

Eells also wrote screenplays for Ralph Edwards ' television show This Is Your Life in the early 1970s (and again in 1984) .

Eells died in early 1995 of pneumonia , the result of brain surgery the previous June. His long-time partner, the playwright Aurand Harris (1915–1996) died a year later.
