George Russell Hegamin (* 14. February 1973 in Camden , New Jersey ) is a former American American football player . He played on the offensive line , including in the National Football League (NFL).

Youth / college

Hegamin already played American football in high school in Camden before he began studying at North Carolina State University in Raleigh and there with the North Carolina State Wolfpack . In 1992 he played for this team for the first time as an offensive tackle . He quickly established himself as a regular player. The team managed to beat the University of Iowa with 24:14 in the Kick off Classic . Hegamin has been named one of the best players in this bowl game. The following year, the Hall of Fame Bowl was lost to the University of Michigan with 42: 7. However, Hegamin was still in the field of vision of the NFL scouts .

Professional time

In the 1994 NFL Draft , Hegamin was drawn 102nd by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round. Hegamin was initially unable to assert himself in the cowboys roster, which was peppered with top players. In 1995 the Cowboys won the Super Bowl XXX against the Pittsburgh Steelers with 27:17. But Hegamin was not used. In order to gain match practice, he was transferred to the NFL Europe to the Frankfurt Galaxy , where he quickly developed into a regular player in 1996 under coach Ernie Stautner . In 1996 and 1997 he was able to establish himself in Dallas , received more time as a guard , including as a substitute for Nate Newton . In 1998 he was given to the Philadelphia Eagles , but could not convince there and moved the following year to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers , where he was under contract in 1999 and 2000 as an offensive tackle. In 2001 he could no longer assert himself in the summer training camp in Tampa Bay and ended his career.
