George Neuner

George Neuner (born August 24, 1878 in Munich , Kingdom of Bavaria , German Empire , † May 24, 1966 in Oregon City , Oregon , USA ) was an American lawyer and politician .

Career

Nothing is known about George Neuner's youth. At some point he moved to the United States and settled there in Oregon. Neuner studied law and began practicing law after receiving his license. He joined the Republican Party . In the following years he sat in 1911 in the Oregon House of Representatives and in 1913 in the Oregon Senate . Between 1925 and 1933 he was a federal attorney for Oregon. Governor Earl Snell appointed him the new Attorney General of Oregon in December 1943 to fill the vacancy created by the death of Isaac Homer Van Winkle . Neuner was then elected for a full term in 1944 and re-elected in 1948. He held his post from December 21, 1943 to January 5, 1953. His term of office was overshadowed by the Second World War and the Korean War .

Neuner was a member of the American Bar Association , a Freemason , an Elk, and Rotary .
