Googie Withers
Googie Withers , actually Georgette Lizette Withers CBE , AO (born March 12, 1917 in Karachi , British India , † July 15, 2011 in Sydney , Australia ) was a British actress .
Life
Googie Withers was born the daughter of a British sailor and a Dutch woman in the British-Indian Karachi. When she was seven, she moved to Great Britain with her parents . Her first film role she had as a dancer in the movie The Girl in the Crowd by Michael Powell .
Since 1948, Googie Withers - she was nicknamed since childhood - was married to John McCallum in a second marriage and has three children. In 1997 she was nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award for the film Shine .
Withers was the first non-Australian to be honored with the Order of Australia , Officer Class (AO) in 1980 . She received the title of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2001 .
Googie Withers died on July 15, 2011 at the age of 94 in Sydney , Australia .
