Georgi Baew

Georgi Dimitrov Baew (common transcription: Georgi Dimitrov Baev , Bulgarian Георги Димитров Баев * 9. November 1924 in Burgas , † 18 February 2007 ) was a Bulgarian painter of Mannerism .

Life

Baew studied painting with Ilija Petrow and Detscko Ussunow at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia . After graduating in 1949, it returned to Burgas, where he worked as a graphic artist and stage painter at the puppet theater until 1960 . In the meantime he became internationally known through his participation in the 6th international youth festival in Moscow . This was followed by several independent and group exhibitions in Germany and abroad. He became a member of the Association of Bulgarian Painters, the Burgas Art Association , and the Vienna Künstlerhausand the Japanese artist association Nika-kai . In 1983 his studio was set on fire by the Bulgarian State Security and a large number of works were destroyed. He processes the fire in the pictures "Agresija", "Apokalisys sega", "One day after the atomic bomb" and others.

Baew was elected as a member of the Seventh Grand National Assembly (1990-1991) from the list of the Union of Democratic Forces (UDK). He was one of 39 MPs from the UDK who protested against the adoption of the new Bulgarian constitution in 1991 and resigned from the assembly.
