Georgi Iskrenow ( Bulgarian Георги Искренов ; born April 2, 1990 in Lausanne , Switzerland ) is an American - Bulgarian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League since 2016 .

Career

Georgi Iskrenow, who was born in Switzerland but has both Bulgarian and US citizenship, began his career as a hockey player in the junior B season of the junior league College Hockey America . After the dissolution of the CHA, he moved to the Washington Junior Nationals in the Atlantic Junior Hockey League . Since 2012 he has been playing for the Iowa State University team in university sports . In the 2014/15 season he was on the ice for HK CSKA Sofia in the Continental Cup . With four goals he contributed to the group victory of the Bulgarian champions in the first round. His goal for the 2-0 lead in the 3-2 win in the decisive game against the Spanish representative CG Puigcerdà was particularly important . In the second round he failed with CSKA after defeats against the Fischtown Pinguins (2: 6), the Belfast Giants (2: 6) and the Tilburg Trappers (4: 5), with the team from the Netherlands also having a 4: 1 lead was not enough to win. In 2015/16 he played again for the Washington junior Nationals . Since 2016 he has been under contract with the Grand Rapids Griffins from the American Hockey League .

International

With the Bulgarian men's national team , Nikolov took part in the World Championships of Division II in 2012 , 2013 and 2016 . Although his three goals in the decisive game against Turkey initially gave the Bulgarians a 3-1 lead after the first period, he and his team had to accept relegation to Division III in 2012 because the game was finally lost 6-3. In 2016 he could not prevent the relegation of the Bulgarians, although he brought his team 1-0 and 2-1 in the decisive game against Israel . He played in Division III in 2017 and 2018 . In addition, he represented his colors in the Olympic qualification for the Winter Games in Pyeongchang 2018 .
