The Georgian Bay Islands National Park ( English Georgian Bay Islands National Park of Canada , French Parc national du Canada des Îles-de-la-Baie-Georgienne ) is a Canadian national park founded in 1929 in the Georgian Bay of Lake Huron near Port Severn in the Canadian province of Ontario and has an area of 26 km². The park is an IUCN Category II ( National Park ) protected area .
Natural conditions
The park consists of 63 small islands and forms a section of the world's largest freshwater archipelago, which consists of around 30,000 islands. The landscape is characterized by wind-ruffled Weymouth pines and bare rocks, which inspired the group of artists to create images that made this area known to the Canadian public. The largest island is Beausoleil Island.
