The Qausuittuq National Park ( English Qausuittuq National Park of Canada ; French Parc national du Canada Qausuittuq ) is a Canadian national park in the Nunavut territory . The park is located in the northern part of Bathurst Island , in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago and also includes other areas on nearby other small and tiny islands. The park, founded in 2015, covers an area of just over 11,000 km². In its immediate vicinity, on Bathurst Island, there is another protected area, the Polar Bear Pass National Wildlife Area . Qausuittuq means in Inuktitut “place where the sun does not rise”.

The region has a tundra climate (ET) according to the Köppen and Geiger climate classification . This means that the park is located in one of the coldest and driest regions in the world, with temperatures averaging minus 33 degrees Celsius in February and just four degrees Celsius in July. The average annual precipitation is around 150 mm. This severe climate results in only sparse vegetation. Patches of sedges, grasses, lichens and mosses provide the food source for wild animals. The wild animals living in the park also include the critically endangered peary caribou , a species of reindeer known for its pure white fur .

The park is an IUCN Category II ( National Park ) protected area .
