The Canadian Fundy National Park ( English Fundy National Park of Canada , French Parc national du Canada Fundy ) is located on the Bay of Fundy near the village of Alma in the province of New Brunswick (New Brunswick). The park has both sea coast and coastal forests, the park area covers an area of 206 km². The park is crossed by New Brunswick Route 114 (a second-order highway).
The Fundy National Park at the same time also the core area of a biosphere reserve of UNESCO , which was established in 2007. The area was in 2011 in its entirety as Dark Sky Preserve ( dark-sky preserve , Fundy Dark Sky Preserve shown). The park is an IUCN Category II ( National Park ) protected area .
At low tide you can reach the bottom of the sea, which at high tide is more than nine meters below the surface of the water. The forest and the marshland are also accessible via a wooden path. There are more than 20 waterfalls in the park area.
In the 19th century there was a sawmill in the park that produced wood for the nearby town of Saint John and for export. After the forests in the area were felled, people abandoned it; in 1948 it finally became New Brunswick's first national park.
