Opened on March 24, 1927, Prince Albert National Park ( English Prince Albert National Park , French Parc national de Prince Albert ) is a Canadian national park in the south of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan . The park is an IUCN Category II ( National Park ) protected area managed by Parks Canada , a Crown Agency (federal agency).
It has an area of 3874 km² and is located in the middle of the province (the nearest town is Prince Albert , Saskatoon is 200 km south). The park has altitudes of 488 meters in the west to 724 meters in the east and includes many forest areas, some prairie areas and numerous lakes, one fifth of the park is covered with water. There are around 1500 flowing and standing waters with 23 species of fish. The park is known for its herd of prairie bisons, comprising around 400 animals . There is a small museum dedicated to Gray Owl at Ajawaan Lake . The park is open all year round.
The Prince Albert National Park was the only national park in the province until the opening of the Grasslands National Park.
