The Georgios Express was a ferry of the Greek Aghios Georgios Ferries that entered service in 1965 as Roi Baudouin . The ship, which has been in service in Greek waters since 1983, remained in service until 2001 and was scrapped in Turkey in 2009 .

history

The Roi Baudouin was built under construction number 828 at NV Cockerill Yards in Hoboken near Antwerp and launched on February 13, 1965. After being taken over by the Belgian Regie voor Maritiem Transport , the ship was put into service on June 13, 1965 on the route from Ostend to Dover .

Between August and October 1982 the Roi Baudouin was chartered by Sealink between Dover and Calais . Then the ship was in Ostend launched . In April 1983, it was with the Greek shipping company Ventouris Sea Lines a new owner, which it in June after Piraeus convict and Georgios B. rename left. However, after just one month, the name was changed to Georgios Express in July 1983 .

After renovation work in Piraeus in August 1983, the Georgios Express took up the liner service between Piraeus and Santorini . In October 1995 the ship had to be laid up in Piraeus due to financial difficulties of the shipping company, where it spent the following five years. In 2000, the Georgios Express went to the shipping company Aghios Georgios Ferries, which they used again on the route from Piraeus to Santorini. After only one year in service, however, the ship was launched again, this time in Eleusis .

In March 2009 the Georgios Express was sold to Turkey for scrapping after eight years of lay-in. On March 25, the ship finally arrived at the Aliağa demolition yard after being towed from the port of Eleusis two days earlier.
