Gerald Funke

Gerald Funke (born February 15, 1964 in Kassel ) is a German Air Force officer, Brigadier General of the Air Force of the German Armed Forces and, since December 1, 2016, Head of Department Planning I in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn .

Military career

Training and first uses

Funke joined the Bundeswehr as an officer candidate in 1983 . After basic training with the Air Force Training Regiment 3 in Roth and the officers' course at the Air Force Officers School in Fürstenfeldbruck , Funke studied electrical engineering at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich from 1984 to 1987 . The first use after graduation was from 1988 to 1991 as a technical officer in the electronics squadron of Fighter Bomber Wing 32 at Lechfeld Air Base . From 1991 to 1994, Funke was employed as avionic group leader in the International Air Forces Field Team for the Eurofighter weapon system in Warton ( Great Britain ). Subsequently, from 1994 to 1996 Funke became Head of Electronic Combat Management Systems for the Tornado and Eurofighter weapon systems at the Air Force Materials Office in Cologne-Wahn .

General staff training and service as a staff officer

From 1996 to 1998 Funke took part in the 41st General Staff Course of the Air Force at the command and control academy of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg . His first employment afterwards took him from 1998 to 2000 again to Cologne-Wahn as a staff officer A 4 at the Air Force Command Service . From 2000 to 2003 he was employed as a consultant for Fü L II 2 (Air Force Equipment Planning) in the Federal Ministry of Defense . From 2003 to 2005 Funke was the commander of the technical group of the 32nd Fighter-Bomber Squadron . From 2005 to 2006 he was transferred to Bonn as an adjutant to the inspector of the Air Force Lieutenant General Klaus-Peter Stieglitz . From 2006 to 2007 he took part in the 109th Senior Course at the NATO Defense College in Rome . From 2007 to 2008, Funke was deployed as General Staff Officer G 4 at the Defense Division IV in Munich . During this period, Funke was also head of the German Armed Forces Technical Advisory Group (GAFTAG) and senior mentor at the ANA logistics school in Kabul at ISAF on a foreign assignment. In 2009 he was transferred to the Bundeswehr Operations Command in Schwielowsee , where he was employed as a J 4 staff officer until 2012. Subsequently, from 2012 to 2015 he was again employed in the Federal Ministry of Defense as Head of Plg III 2 Planning Implementation .

Service as a general

From June 2015 to December 2016, Funke was the successor to Brigadier General Wolfgang Gäbelein , Deputy Commander of the Bundeswehr Logistics Command in Erfurt . Associated with this was the promotion to brigadier general.

On December 1, 2016, Funke was transferred to his current post as Head of Planning I in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn.
