Gerald Mackenthun

Gerald Mackenthun (born August 21, 1950 in Westerland ) is a German journalist , author and psychotherapist .

Life

Mackenthun attended the primary school in Munich-Schwabing as well as the natural science Gisela-Gymnasium and the Nymphenburger Gymnasium . From 1970 he first studied psychology and newspaper studies at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , then moved to the Free University of Berlin in 1971 , studied history , economics and journalism and graduated in 1977 with a diploma in political science . He then completed a traineeship at the Frankfurter Rundschau in Frankfurt am Main. In 1980/81 he was a freelance radio journalist for the RIAS and the Sender Free Berlin , 1982/83 deputy press spokesman for the Senate Department for Schools in Berlin . From 1984 worked for the German Press Agency in the Berlin state office, initially as a permanent freelancer and from 1991 to 2003 as a science editor with a focus on science, medicine, health and universities.

In 1986 Mackenthun began a second degree in psychology at the Free University of Berlin and graduated in 1990 with a diploma. In 1996 he received his doctorate with a thesis on "Resistance and repression, history and further development of two key terms in depth psychology" at the TU Berlin under Eva Jaeggi . In 2003 he received his license to practice as a psychological psychotherapist in the state of Berlin. In 2004/05 he was a reference therapist at the Clinic for Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy at the Charité in Berlin, and in 2005/06 at the Ruppiner Clinics in Neuruppin in Brandenburg. From 2005 to 2010 he practiced as a resident psychological psychotherapist in Magdeburg , and since 2010 in Berlin. In 2011 he completed his habilitation in clinical psychology at the University of Klagenfurt with a thesis on “Community feeling. A study in value psychology and philosophy of life since Alfred Adler ”. Mackenthun held various teaching positions at the Humboldt University Berlin , the Charité Berlin, the Academy for Occupational Medicine and Environmental Medicine Berlin and the University of the Arts Berlin and is currently teaching as a private lecturer at the University of Klagenfurt.

On January 1st, 2017, Mackenthun took over the VTA-Verlag (publishing house for depth psychology and anthropology) from Klaus Hölzer.
