Geraldino - children's songwriter

Geraldino (bourgeois Gerd Grashaußer, born 1959 ) is a German children's songwriter.

Life

He is active as a singer and guitarist on stage and in the recording studio and works as a lyricist and composer.

In addition, he is also active as a workshop leader and seminar provider, music clip producer, festival organizer, editor, presenter, audio book speaker, actor, travel companion, visual artist and author.

As a soloist and with the band "Geraldino & die Plomster" he plays live concerts and produces CDs of rock and pop music for children aged 4–10 and the whole family. His longstanding musical partners are Rainer Ullmann alias "Lord Ray" (bass, production management), Henning Engelhardt alias "Sticky Stick" (drums), Peter Kern alias "Reiner Wahnsinn" (keyboard), Jürgen Keidel alias "Heini Thoroughly" (saxophone ) and Claudia Martin (accordion, management).

In addition, Geraldino has worked with a wide variety of music genres: with the blues duo Brandl & Schmitt, the rockabilly band Hot Rod Gang, the jazz formation The Old Dixie Bones, the chamber music ensemble Blumenquartett, the big band Time Bandits and the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra .

Every year it offers a "mixture of pure fun, blooming imagination and measured poetry" at over one hundred concerts. The highlights so far have been appearances at the ARD Children's Festival, the ZDF TiVi Tour, the BR Summer Songs Box , the WDR Lilipuz Summer Tour, the Ruhr Festival Recklinghausen , the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Haus der Kulturen der Welt Berlin and the regular Invitations to the Bardentreffen Nürnberg. Guest performances in Europe (including Vienna, Lisbon, Athens, Glasgow), North America (New York, Washington, Boston, Montreal) and Asia (New Delhi, Seoul) were already on his tour schedule.

The family magazine Famos writes: "Geraldino is one of the most popular German children's songwriters".

Childhood, youth and first professional steps

Gerd Grashaußer grew up in the Franconian town of Dietersdorf and spent his youth on the football field, as a player and later as a youth coach for TSV Wolkersdorf.

After finishing school, he became a civil servant at the Deutsche Bundesbahn , but soon ended his civil servant career again and took the second education path. He completed a pedagogical training at the Ev. Specialized Academy for Social Pedagogy Nuremberg. He also worked as a supervisor for children's and youth camps.

Together with the painter Peter Engl he founded the Neue Deutsche Welle band vacuum cleaners. With changing members from the artist and musician scene in Nuremberg, performance concepts were developed, a mix of concert and art performance. Two LPs and one double LP have been released.

In 1980 he was a founding member of the Rootslöffel theater and worked in numerous children's theater productions as an actor, playwright and theater music producer. He worked with the directors Norberto Presta, Marcelo Diaz and Peter Spielbauer. The theater was funded by the City of Nuremberg's Cultural Office.

In addition, the play bus Theatrobil was operated and street theater was played. His adult solo play Suitcase or House Rules premiered in 1982.

Artistic career

Gerd Grashaußer began specializing in “modern children's music” in 1983 and has been touring Germany, Austria and Switzerland with live music programs under the artist name “Geraldino” since then.

From 1988 to 1991 he completed a rhythm training with Professor Hannelore Krause-Wichert ( Rhythmik eV ) Cologne .

The "Geraldino Fan Club" was founded in 1992 with Fan Club President "Susie Südstadt", and for five years the Geraldino Fan Club newspaper appeared quarterly together with a Fan Club MC.

Since 1993 he has been writing articles for specialist magazines (including music in primary schools ), leading workshops for children and advanced training for educators, and moderating the weekly children's radio program Kinderkram until the end of 1995 .

The 12-part project series Nürnberger Kindermusikwochen started in 1994 and included: harpist Lilo Kraus, saxophonist Achim Göttert, drummer Yogo Pausch , rock'n'roll pianist "Miller the Killer", double bass player Michael Bradke, cellist Frieder Weiss , accordion -Player Peter Horcher, pianist Nils Pommer, guitarist Andreas Hansl, children's songwriter Rainer Wenzel, clown "Heini Gründlich", dobro player Klaus Brandl and harmonica player Chris Schmitt.

His two-year work stay in Cologne began in 1994: music clips and two children's programs were produced in cooperation with the WDR.

In 1996 Geraldino received the City of Nuremberg's Culture Promotion Prize from the Lord Mayor and the City of Nuremberg's cultural advisor, and jammed together with the Windsbach Boys' Choir at the award ceremony .

He co-founded the musicians' association "kindermusik.de" in 1998, since then has published joint productions as publisher and plays at joint concerts at festivals in Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne etc.

The Geraldino Children's Music Festival has been taking place in the Nuremberg Tafelhalle every year since 1999 , the German Children's Song Prize (endowed with € 2500 - donated by the Nürnberger Nachrichten) is awarded as part of the festival , and a festival CD is released every year, the proceeds of which go to a children's charity .

He has been designing the musical supporting program for family trips of the tour operator ReNatour since 2002, the highlights were the horse-drawn carriage tours through the Vosges, the knight weeks in a castle in Lazio and above all the camel trekking tours through the Sahara desert.

In cooperation with KI.KA / ZDF, he has been producing music clips for children since 2004. He was invited as a studio guest to children's TV programs ( Singas Musik Box, SingAlarm ) and his music titles are regularly broadcast on children's radio programs in Germany (Lilipuz / KiRaKa, radioMikro, Kakadu etc.)

From 2005 he headed the children's music working group for educators and teachers in Nuremberg for five years .

In 2006 he played nationwide appearances at the soccer World Cup with his program “The Ball is Colorful”, the fan set with “Geraldino scarf and Geraldino hat” was produced.

His music titles have been available on all major download portals worldwide since 2008, and this year he was also the sponsor of the Europe-wide project School without Racism - School with Courage.

14-part reading tours in cooperation with the School & Culture Department of the Education Department of the Canton of Zurich have been taking place regularly since 2010 under the motto “First-hand literature”.

Since 2010 he has also been a regular guest at the Festival of Dreams in Innsbruck and at the Festival Naturns laughs! International summer of humor in South Tyrol.

The 30th stage anniversary was celebrated in 2013 at the Bardentreffen Nuremberg, with a big anniversary concert with 30 musical friends who have accompanied Geraldino over the years. The anniversary double CD Best of Geraldino with the "30 most beautiful sing-along songs and participatory hits from 30 years" will be released at the same time by Universal Music .

The world record attempt "The longest song in the world" was started in 2014: The song Der Salzbergwerkzwerg was composed of 1111 stanzas, which were published in the book of the same name.

Since 2015, he has been combining visual arts with audio adventures in exhibitions of his “Lied Objects” and has also offered “musical tours” through the art exhibition. In addition, the musical calendar with 365 Geraldino songs went online on its homepage this year .

His first novel "Der Grabsänger" was published in 2016: In 47 chapters, he tells the most important stages on his way from "Grabsänger" to "Star of the nursery", his bizarre everyday adventures lead him from the economic miracle to avant-garde performance.

The motto for 2017 is "Singing makes you happy!", The publication of a children's choir book and workshops and performances with school and children's choirs are intended to strengthen the importance of singing with children.

The "Glow Worm - Open Air" has been taking place annually since 2018 in the Katharinenruine in Nuremberg and since 2019 there have been a series of performances in Middle Franconia as part of the "Day of Children's Song" festival.
