Gerd Brenneis

Gerd Brenneis (born January 3, 1936 in Nienhagen , Mecklenburg ; † March 13, 2003 in Güstrow ) was a German opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Brenneis was hired by the Deutsche Oper Berlin in 1974 to join its ensemble, of which he was a member until 1996. Here he was on stage in 174 performances. Under Eugen Jochum he sang Walther von Stolzing in the Meistersinger , Tannhäuser under Jesús López Cobos , Siegfried , Parsifal , Rienzi and Lohengrin , Max im Freischütz , Florestan in Fidelio , Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos and the Kaiser in Die Frau ohne Schatten .

He also made a name for himself in the heroic roles of Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss on international opera stages, including the Vienna State Opera , La Scala in Milan , the Metropolitan Opera New York and the Bayreuth Festival . However, his artistic home always remained the Deutsche Oper Berlin . Brenneis died after a serious illness.
