Gerd Lehmkuhl

Gerd Lehmkuhl (born September 6, 1948 in Bremerhaven ) is a German former professor of child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Cologne (from 1988 to 2014) and psychotherapist .

Career

Gerd Lehmkuhl studied medicine at the Universities of Cologne and Hamburg and psychology at the RWTH Aachen . In 1973 he received his doctorate in medicine . In 1979 he finished his psychology studies with a diploma and completed his individual psychological training. During this time he was an assistant in the departments of neurology , psychiatry and paediatrics at RWTH Aachen University. This was followed by recognition as a specialist in neurology and psychiatry as well as child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapeutic medicine. From 1980, initially as a research assistant, from 1982 he was senior physician in the Clinic for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Central Institute for Mental Health in Mannheim . He was recognized as a psychoanalyst by the Medical Association in 1985 . In 1986 he completed his habilitation in child and adolescent psychiatry with a neuropsychological thesis on the consequences of traumatic brain injuries .

In 1988 he was offered the newly established chair for child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy at the University of Cologne. Lehmkuhl was the director of this clinic from 1988 to the end of 2014. From 1989 to 1999 he was also chairman of the Alfred Adler Institute Aachen-Cologne , where he a. a. initiated and established a training course for analytical child and adolescent psychotherapists. From 2000 to 2004 he was Dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne.

From 1990 to 2013 he was the responsible editor of the Zeitschrift für Individualpsychologie and from 1989 to 2013 he was co-editor of the Zeitschrift für Kinder- und Jugendpsychiatrie und Psychotherapie. He is also the chairman of the national foundation Achtung! Children's soul , whose aim is to inform about the effects of mental illness in children and adolescents and to initiate appropriate projects to improve their mental health.

His scientific work focuses on the diagnosis and therapy of attention deficit / hyperactivity disorders , the epidemiology of psychological disorders in children and adolescents, the diagnosis and therapy of sleep disorders as well as care epidemiology .
