career

Müller began his professional career in 1974 at FC Homburg , for which he completed 25 appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga South over the next two years . In 1974 he and defender Albert Müller were taken over by their own amateurs in the licensing squad. On the fourth match day, August 25, 1974, he made his debut in the 2: 4 away defeat at FK Pirmasens in the 2nd division. He was substituted on in the second half by trainer Herbert Wenz for Gerhard Pankotsch . Against the strong offensive forces Manfred Lenz , Harald Diener and Otmar Ludwig , he could not hold his own under Wenz's successor Uwe Klimaschefski .

After two rounds of the 2nd Bundesliga with Homburg, the students moved to the university town of Göttingen . He joined 1. SC Göttingen 05 for the 1976/77 season . Before the start of the third second division season 1976/77, Walter Plaggemeyer , Dieter Hochheimer , Jürgen Krawczyk and the newcomer from Homburg, four 05er players with the student national team took part in the World Cup in Uruguay from August 1st to 15th, 1976. Trainer Reinhard Roder was against the participation of four players from Göttingen for reasons of the basic form structure during the preparation period, but the responsible DFB trainer Herbert Widmayer was able to persuade the 05er Presidium to fly to South America. With goalkeeper Jürgen Muche , Bernd Brexendorf , Uli Bruder and Ewald Lienen , other players from the 2nd Bundesliga also took part in the trip. Müller scored two goals in 33 games in the 2nd Bundesliga North for SC Göttingen 05. But Göttingen was relegated to the amateur camp as 17th. Now his sporting path led to Kickers Offenbach , where he scored three goals in 1977/78 in 34 appearances in the southern season of the 2nd Bundesliga. The OFC took fifth place and Müller had played a remarkable round alongside other players such as Bernd Helmschrot , Ulrich Pechtold , Kurt Geinzer , Hermann Bitz and the other newcomer Plaggemeyer under coach Udo Klug .

From 1978 to 1980 Müller completed a total of 26 league appearances for 1. FC Saarbrücken in the 2. Bundesliga South, in which he scored three goals.
