Reinhard Roder

Reinhard Roder (born July 6, 1941 in Breslau ) is a former German soccer player , soccer coach and soccer official . As a defender he played 94 league games (6 goals) from 1964 to 1967 in the second -rate regional soccer league north near Göttingen 05 and was runner-up twice in 1966 and 1967 . With Göttingen he took part in the promotion round of the Bundesliga in 1967 and played eleven league games in the Bundesliga with 1. FC Köln in the 1967/68 season . During his time as a manager at FC Bayer 05 Uerdingen (1981–1990), the club from Krefeld won the DFB Cup in 1985 , returned to the Bundesliga in 1983 and took part in the European Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA Cup.

Career

Soccer player

Born in Breslau, Roder came to Clausthal-Zellerfeld in Lower Saxony with his family as a war refugee . He attended school there, graduated from high school and played football in his youth at TSG Clausthal-Zellerfeld. There he made it over the district, district, Lower Saxony in the North German selection, with which he won the 1959 DFB Youth Cup. From the 1959/60 season he played in senior football at Goslarer SC 08 , from which he was obliged after the round of 1963/64 from the season 4 amateur league from the regional league promoted Göttingen 05 . Under coach Fritz Rebell , the stopper from Goslar made his debut on August 9, 1964 in a 3-0 away defeat at Arminia Hannover in the second-rate Regionalliga Nord. He immediately belonged to the regular cast of Göttingen and completed 32 league games (2 goals) in his first round, when the promoted team finished 5th. Roder developed into an above-average defender of the old Regionalliga Nord with the black and yellow team . In his second and third round he finished second in the north with Göttingen in 1966 and 1967, but was only able to take part in the promotion round to the Bundesliga with his team in 1967. The Southwest Vice 1. FC Saarbrücken blocked Göttingen in 1966 in two lost qualifying games. After the round in 1966/67, he took part in the promotion round alongside other players such as Dietmar Degenhardt , Klaus Matz , Peter Klepatz , Heiner Klose , Fred Hoff and Dietmar Mürdter , but only came in 4th place with 6:10 points. Group place behind Alemannia Aachen, Kickers Offenbach and 1. FC Saarbrücken. Roder had played all eight group games and convinced the responsible persons of 1. FC Köln and accepted their offer and moved to Cologne in the Bundesliga for the 1967/68 season.

In 1967 he went to 1. FC Köln and played eleven Bundesliga games under coach Willi Multhaup . He then played for Bayer 04 Leverkusen for two years from 1968 to 1970 and played a total of 39 league games in the Regionalliga West in which he scored four goals.

Trainer and functionary

During his time in Cologne and Leverkusen, Roder studied at the Sports University in Cologne and after his return to Göttingen taught sports at the Otto Hahn Gymnasium there. He started in Göttingen as a coach from the 1972/73 season and looked after the team until December 1976. He moved to VfL Osnabrück in the summer of 1977 , where he was presented with high expectations by President Hartwig Piepenbrock . On March 1, 1978, however, he was released for failure. Then he tried again as a coach at Tennis Borussia Berlin , but then switched to the managerial field.

In this role he had a successful time at Bayer 05 Uerdingen , where he worked from 1981/82 to 1989/90. With the various coaches Werner Biskup , Hans-Dieter Tipphauer , Friedhelm Konietzka , Karl-Heinz Feldkamp , Rolf Schafstall and Horst Wohlers , he reached the Bundesliga return in 1982/83 after relegation against FC Schalke 04, won the DFB Cup in 1985, experienced the unforgettable games in 1985/86 in the European Cup Winners' Cup - including the legendary 7: 3 in the second leg on March 19, 1986 against Dynamo Dresden - 3rd place in the 1985/86 Bundesliga and the strengthening of the youth division, which in the two German Championships in 1987 in the B and A youth culminated. He worked under the 1st chairman Arno Eschler with the Blau-Roten vom Grotenburg-Stadion with players like Matthias Herget , Friedhelm and Wolfgang Funkel , Werner Vollack , Karl-Heinz Wöhrlin , Horst Feilzer , Rudi Bommer , Atli Edvaldsson , Dietmar Klinger , Horst Steffen , Brian Laudrup and Marcel Witeczek together.

In 1990 he took over the managerial job at Hertha BSC , but had to leave early after a relatively unsuccessful year and a half. In the winter of 1991/92 Roder finally said goodbye to professional football and worked until retirement as managing director of a production company for the building materials industry in Geldern on the Lower Rhine.
