Gerhard Bühler (born July 21, 1868 in Igis ; † February 11, 1940 in Solothurn ) was a Swiss drawing teacher , etcher , painter and publicist .

Life

Gerhard Bühler, born as the son of pastor Christian Bühler and Cecilia Bühler-Schricks, attended the grammar school of the Aarau Cantonal School since 1886 . He studied at the University of Bern , at the Zurich School of Applied Arts , from November 2, 1892 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich with Johann Leonhard Raab and Otto Seitz , and at the Royal Prussian Academy of the Arts in Berlin with Paul Friedrich Meyerheim . Then he continued his studies at the art academies in Dresden and Karlsruhe as well as at the Geneva art academy and the Technical University of Charlottenburg .

After studying in Florence and Brussels , he received the drawing teacher license for advanced training schools at the Technikum Winterthur in 1886 and settled in Solothurn at the age of 28. From 1896 to 1925 he worked as a drawing teacher at the canton school there.

In addition to his educational work, he worked as a painter and graphic artist and took part in art exhibitions. Gerhard Bühler published numerous articles on artistic and craft topics in the daily press and in specialist journals.

He was married to Amalie Gunzinger, the couple remained childless.
