Gerhard Hönicke (born March 25, 1930 in Heyda ; † November 5, 1984 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) was a track and field athlete from the German Democratic Republic (GDR) who won eleven GDR championship titles and twice took part in the Olympic Games.

Gerhard Hönicke was one of the best long-distance runners from 1954, when he was third in the GDR championships in the 5000-meter run and fifth in the 10,000-meter run , until 1967, when he again finished fifth in the 10,000 meters GDR. Hönicke began his career in Aue and later started for SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt and SC Karl-Marx-Stadt . From 1958 to 1964, Hönicke was able to qualify for the all-German team . At the European Championships in 1958 , he finished 13th in the 10,000-meter run, and two years later he came twelfth at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome. Then he started at international championships in marathon running . In 1962 and 1966 he took 17th place at the European Championships, and in the 1964 Olympic marathon in Tokyo he was ranked 38th.

In 1955, Hönicke set a GDR record for both 5000 and 10,000 meters, and over 10,000 meters he was the first runner from the GDR to stay under 31 minutes in 30: 55.0 minutes. On July 11, 1964, Hönicke ran the marathon in Jena in 2:19:52 h, making it the first German under 2 hours and 20 minutes.

With a height of 1.74 m, his competition weight was 66 kg. Hönicke was a car electrician and concrete worker by profession.
