Gerhard Leitner (politician)

Gerhard Leitner (born March 29, 1951 in Feistritz im Rosental ; † May 19, 2020 ) was an Austrian politician of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ). From April 2018 until his death in May 2020 he was a member of the Federal Council delegated by the Carinthian state parliament .

Life

education and profession

After primary school in Feistritz im Rosental and high schools in St. Paul im Lavanttal and Klagenfurt, Gerhard Leitner attended the technical college for weapons technology, tool and fixture construction in Ferlach , where he graduated in 1971 . After his military service in 1971/72 he began studying business and social economics at the University of Graz and in 1975 a diploma in education and teaching sciences at the then University of Educational Sciences in Klagenfurt, which he completed in 1979 with a master's degree. This was followed by a doctoral degree in pedagogy and teaching technology at the University of Educational Sciences in Klagenfurt, where he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . Leitner was managing director and partner of several companies, among other things he was managing director of Welser Messe International GmbH and management assistant and media consultant, later authorized signatory and deputy director of Klagenfurter Messe Betriebsgesellschaft mbH. He was also a lecturer at the University of Klagenfurt and the University of Salzburg .

politics

Gerhard Leitner had been a member of the SPÖ since 1977 and a functionary at the Association of Social Democratic Academics, Intellectuals, Artists (BSA) and the Social Democratic Business Association (SWV). From 2010 he was district chairman of the Pensioners 'Association (PVÖ) in Klagenfurt-Stadt, and in the Pensioners' Association of Carinthia, he was Deputy President. From March 2015 to April 2018 he was a member of the municipal council of the state capital Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, where he acted as chairman of the committee for the environment, energy, public transport and the city garden.

After the state elections in Carinthia in 2018 , from April 12, 2018 until his death on May 19, 2020, he was a member of the Federal Council delegated by the Carinthian state parliament , where he joined the Environment Committee, the Committee on Labor, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection, the Committee on Civil Rights and Petitions, the Committee on Innovation, Technology and Future and the Finance Committee. After his death in May 2020, his Federal Council mandate went to Nicole Riepl .
