Gerhard Michal

Gerhard Michal (born March  1, 1931 in Mies ) is a German biochemist .

After attending school in his hometown and the end of World War II in Regensburg , he studied chemistry at the University of Regensburg and at the Technical University of Munich , where he completed his doctorate on metabolism of the heart under anoxic conditions in 1959 . He then worked for Boehringer Mannheim until his retirement in 1995 , among other things as head of department and director of science planning.

Gerhard Michal is co-author of 75 scientific publications . His main work is a graphic representation of the chemical reactions occurring in living beings with the chemical compounds and enzymes involved , published as a wall poster , in book form and on the World Wide Web under the title Biochemical Pathways . The poster edition distributed free of charge by Boehringer Mannheim reached a total circulation of more than one million copies in more than 40 years.

Gerhard Michal has been married since 1959 and has three children.
