Gerhard Philipp (born January 4, 1904 in Dresden ; † April 20, 1966 in Aachen ) was a German engineer , lawyer and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Gerhard Philipp was born on January 4, 1904 in Dresden as the nephew of Albrecht Philipp, who later became a member of the Reichstag . After attending the community school and graduating from high school in 1923, he began studying mining at the Bergakademie Freiberg , which he completed in 1928 with the examination as a qualified mining engineer. During his studies in 1924 he became a member of the Germania Freiberg fraternity . In 1930 he received his doctorate in engineering with a thesis on the question of miners' union . From 1928 to 1931 he studied law at the University of Leipzig , passed both state examinations and worked as a lawyer in Dresden from 1935 to 1945. From 1938 to 1947 he also acted as the syndic of the Saxon state metallurgical and ore mining companies. In 1939/40 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier .

Philipp moved to West Germany in 1947 , settled in Aachen, where he became the managing director of the coal mining association. In 1950 he became a member of the Dresden-Freiberg fraternity of Cheruscia Aachen . Since 1953 he was also honorary deputy chairman of the Aachener Knappschaft . In addition, he made trips abroad to Italy and the Balkans as well as to the countries of the Coal and Steel Community (ECSC).

Philipp had been a council member of the city of Aachen since 1956. He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1957 until his death. He was always drawn into parliament via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia . From October 29, 1957 to March 19, 1958 and from November 5, 1959 to his death, he was also a member of the European Parliament .
