Gerhard Rüger
Gerhard Rüger (born August 20, 1938 in Erfurt ) is a former cyclist and pacemaker in cycling .
Athletic career
In the 1950s he was active as a road driver and train driver for SG Dynamo Leipzig in the GDR . In 1968 he changed his profession and set the pace in standing races . From 1979 to 1983 he was GDR champion in the standing race with Günter Gottlieb . He won the silver medal three times, in 1977 with Magnus, 1978 with Gottlieb and 1987 with Frank Herzog . At the International Standing Championship in Brno he was successful five times with Gottlieb. He made a contribution to the promotion of young talent by repeatedly introducing “newcomers” to the standing sport. As a pacemaker, he was a member of the BSG Robotron Optima Erfurt for many years .
