Gerhard Riedmann (writer)

Gerhard Riedmann (born May 12, 1933 in Sterzing , South Tyrol ; † November 25, 2003 in Bozen , South Tyrol) was a teacher , writer and theater man .

Life

Gerhard Riedmann was born in Sterzing. He studied German , Romance languages and history at the universities of Padua , Tübingen and Bonn . In 1958 he received his doctorate as Dr. phil. and then worked as a teacher for German and history until 1994 in Bozen.

Riedmann was a member of the Association of German Writers (BDS) and the Association of Austrian Authors (IG). From 1972 to 1985 he was cultural reporter for South Tyrol at the Tiroler Tageszeitung in Innsbruck . He wrote articles for Das Fenster (Tyrolean cultural magazine) and worked regularly for “Kulturberichte aus Tirol” (1984–2002). He also worked for the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation and the RAI, Sender Bozen .

Riedmann staged plays by modern authors (including with school classes) - by Bert Brecht , William Shakespeare , Ödön von Horváth , Samuel Beckett , Oscar Wilde and others. a. He was co-founder and head of the “Tribüne” Bolzano and speaker at various conferences on the topics of language and literature in German-speaking countries.

Riedmann wrote poetry , prose , plays and non-fiction books.

He died on November 25, 2003 at the age of 70 in Bolzano from complications from cancer .
