Gerhard Rothenbuchner

Gerhard Stefan Rothenbuchner (born February 18, 1929 in Bleiburg ; † October 12, 2017 ) was an endocrinologist and university professor .

Career

Rothenbuchner completed his habilitation in 1973 at the University of Ulm with studies on thyroid liberin (TRH). Until his retirement he worked as an adjunct professor at Ulm University. Rothenbuchner was chief physician at the Schwabenland clinic for several years .

After early work in human genetics , his later scientific focus was on thyroid diseases (thyreology), diabetes mellitus , the pituitary gland and the interactions between these topics.

Together with Ulrich Loos and Ernst-Friedrich Pfeiffer , he was the first to describe the non-thyroidal illness syndrome in starvation metabolism .
