Gerhard Ruhenstroth-Bauer
Gerhard Ruhenstroth-Bauer (born June 2, 1913 in Opava / Austrian Silesia , † August 2, 2004 in Munich ) was a German biochemist and doctor .
Live and act
Ruhenstroth-Bauer studied chemistry at the Universities of Prague and Konigsberg and was founded in 1943 by the Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Berlin Dr. rer. nat. PhD . His habilitation thesis for Dr. med. habil. it presented in 1951 at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen , where he then worked as a private lecturer . In 1957 he moved to the University of Munich , where he was appointed adjunct professor for experimental medicine in 1958. Ruhenstroth-Bauer was also a Scientific Member of the Max Planck Society and, from 1962 until his retirement in 1981, Director at the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Martinsried .
Gerhard Ruhenstroth-Bauer's name became known in popular science in connection with the answer to the question about milk souring during thunderstorms. Christoph Drösser quoted him in his Zeit column, right ? with the statement that so-called sferics are responsible for this.
During the Nazi era , Ruhenstroth-Bauer joined the NSDAP and the SS in 1938 and was a medical officer in the Luftwaffe during the Second World War . As Adolf Butenandt's assistant at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Biochemistry in Berlin, he carried out experiments on epileptic children from the Brandenburg-Görden psychiatric sanatorium. On behalf of the German Air Force, the consequences of a lack of oxygen were to be examined in a vacuum chamber.
In 1980 he was appointed a full member of the natural science class of the Sudeten German Academy of Sciences and Arts in Munich.
